Why do some church leaders outright *lie* about why they dislike piercings and tattoos?
Question by mathaowny: Why do some church leaders outright *lie* about why they dislike piercings and tattoos?
Many church leaders are lying about tattos and piercings– why can’t they simply say “It’s against our religion, we believe God doen’t like it and the Bible preaches against it” instead of saying:
–”It’s exulting in being ugly.” Just because someone’s tattoo is ugly to you doesn’t mean it’s ugly ot them– they probably think it’s beautiful, which makes this a moot point.
–”Tattoos and piercings are, at best, self-inflicted abuse.” Anyone who has taken a psyche class knows that this is a lie. There is no “self-abuse” involved any more than there is with plastic surgery.
–”Tattoos and piercings are only to shock and repel others, a sign of perverted values.” Um, I have my piercings for me, they have nothing to do with anyone else. Also a moot point.
–”Piercings are a sign of sexual disorientation.” Again, take a psyche class and you’ll know this is false. Piercings don’t affect your sexuality.
Why can’t these people tell the truth instead of lying and making us look bad?
It’s fine with me if you and your church don’t agree with people getting tattoos and piercings. That’s your right to disagree, and I understand that many Bibles are against it– that’s fine with me.
I just think it’s wrong that people are lying about others and making them look bad instead of telling the truth that it’s simply against their religion. They’re purposely making tattooed, pierced, and other groups of people look bad when the could instead tell the truth and leave it at that.
Not to mention, it’s fine that you don’t want any tattoos or piercings, but outlawing them for everyone because of your personal beliefs is also wrong: “Employers and principals should make rules outlawing any such jewelry for male staff and students. Especially for the young, such rules protect them both from themselves and from peer pressure.”

Oh it think they are hidious. Horrible. Don’t know why someone would ruin there body like that. But it is against my religion. And I will tell a person that. Then I will tell them how nasty they are anyways.
The question is, why are you lying to yourself about this issue? Sounds like you are trying to get some attention
Ok I am a christian and Have 11 peircing and love tattoos, just dont know what I want yet. I dont know who you have been talking to but tons of my friends and people at my church have tatoos and peircings and it is very excepted. Peircings arent just for attention and they are beautiful to the perosn above.
True.True. Religious leaders are supposed to be living according to the Word, and when they say things like that, they’re lying and sinning. It’s too bad they can’t just say it like it is. Although I’ve never heard someone go around the truth like that about tattoos.
Why would they change their M.O. regarding tats and piercings? They lie to control.
The Old Testament does say that you are a temple of God, his spirit dwells within you, and that you should not defile a temple of God. However, this is only one of the many many sins that Jesus was sent back to reconcile. If Jesus is your savior then your whole person will be new, raised to walk in a new light. (Wanting to do what is right in God’s eyes)
