So scared about surgery?
I just found out yesterday that I need to have surgery. They wanted to do it this upcoming monday but I didnt want it that soon, So now its scheduled for Dec 1st. The dr said it cannot be done later than that.
Ive had surgery in the past and also have had blood pressure issues after the surgery ( gets too low and I pass out) Im on medicine for my high blood pressure and I was told to not take it the day of the surgery.
The surgery is to remove a large ovarian cyst so It can be biopsied and he also believes he is going to have to remove lots of scar tissue from a previous surgery and infection
The Dr said that with the surgery it will be Laparoscopic surgery, which I know is nothing too serious. He did mention that if he cant do what he needs to do that way he will have to cut a bigger hole and do it that way.
Here is the problem. I dont want to go home the same day of surgery because Im scared to death about what will happen with my blood pressure. I would like to be admitted, It would put my mind at ease and I would feel lots better without having to worry about my blood pressure. Im seriously thinking about not even having the surgery done if I have to come home the same day. I live alone and Will have nobody to be here with me @ home. What should I do?
I would discuss it with your doctor. If you do not have help at home, they might admit you for a day. You would have to have someone drive you home no matter when you leave. You doctor would be able to make the decision for you to stay, but if your insurance company does not support an illogical reason to stay…you might have to fork the fees out yourself. All in all, discuss your concern with your doctor. If you have had previous problems with surgery, he may go your way.
You need to tell the hospital you live alone, they would expect someone to look after you. If there is no one ask if you can stay overnight to recover.
I had the same problem with my BP after surgery. They will make sure you are stable before they let you leave. Once you are stable you shouldn’t worry about your BP. Express this concern with your nurses and doctor. Tell everyone about it so they know to watch for it. I stayed overnight both times I had surgery b/c my BP couldn’t get stabilized. You are in the best place, a hospital, to go through this. They will look out for you. Just pay attention to how you are feeling and express your concerns. Best of luck.
