After the surgery, she’ll be a little groggy, but she’ll sleep that off. Her personality will not change and she will not get fat unless you over-feed and under-exercise her.

Re the problems post-surgery, discuss those with your veterinarian ahead of time.

    pros- no baby dogs.
cons- no baby dogs and your dog is pissed as hell for several weeks.

good for dog- can still lick himself.

    pros- no unwanted puppies
    healthier

    cons- none
drowsiness at first then back to normal in no time. spaying is so routine that theyre isnt usually problems after. i dont remember the vet saying what to watch for because my dogs 8 now and was spayed as a puppy

Our dog Mollie is a lab mix, and was spayed a little less than a year ago. She came home sore, and whined a little with moving, but that passed after the first day. She will be more herself the day after surgery after the anesthesia wears off, and you will probably actually have to keep her calm to keep the stitches from pulling!

Try not to worry too much – spaying is so routine now that unless she has an allergy to the anesthesia, nothing should go wrong. :)

    Pros-
~one of the safest, easiest, quickest surgeries around. About 20 minutes- most vets could do them blindfolded.
    ~no unwanted pregnancies
    ~no uterine or ovarian cancer
~drastically decreased chance of breast cancer
~no blood, no smell, no whining, no dogs sniffing around while she tries to escape
    ~possibly longer lifespan

    Cons-
~some advocate full growth in a larger breed before spaying
    ~surgery complications (very uncommon)
    ~post-surgical complications

Signs after which indicate problem: Excessive swelling, bleeding, pus, foul smell from incision, dog won’t let stitches heal.

I’ve never had a problem with a spay or neuter. Over the years I’ve probably s/n ‘d at least 200 rescues & my own pets.

Keep up with her diet and exercise-resume regular exercise after 1 week. She will be the same dog, but healthier and more worry-free and ready to concentrate on loving YOU and not on pups and breeding and fighting and all that stuff.

Thanks for doing the right thing for your girl. : )
