Everyone I know has different views on the situation. I love my dog very much..but i do not want her to suffer and the stones may always return after surgery. My mother thinks she should be put down, due to age and cost. I have schedualed her surgery and hope for the best. I feel like there is no right decision here. She does also have smaller stones in her kidney. She doesn’t not appear to be in any distress and still acts like a pom puppy. She is having difficulty passing urine and it is bloody:( Please help me make the right decision.
If your vet recommends surgery, then that’s what you should do. As long as your vet can fix the problem with surgery, there should be no reason to put your dog down because of cost. 9 years old is not old for a pom, so she should live for many more years. You are making the right decision to have the surgery done. Good luck with your baby and I’m sure she will be fine!!!
I would have to give her a chance and do the surgery. That way you will know you did what you could to save her. I love my dogs and would do just about anything to help them. I’m sure you love yours the same way. Have the surgery and see what happens after. Good luck!
Although this is a very hard decision that I’m sure you don’t want to have to make, but it really isn’t one that we can tell you what to do.
You’re right that it is possible for the stones to return at some point after surgery, but work closely with your vet and follow the recommendations that they give you so that you can do your best to prevent them from returning.
This isn’t something that should just be left as it will be very uncomfortable for your dog – so, unfortunately, it looks like you only have 2 options…
Sorry, I probably wasn’t much help….
I would go through with the surgery and then talk to your vet and do some research to see if there is any medicine or nutritional things that would help so that she doesn’t form any more stones.
I would opt for the surgery because this is fixable. You’re right, the stones may return, but that could be years, if ever. If she were older and had an advanced disease, I’d opt for euthanasia.
Ooh I am so sorry honey..that’s a very difficult decision..my boyfriend and i had a situation with are Boxer..(not the same situation though)in and out of surgeries..my boyfriends family spent a fortune on her..(it was really my bf dog)we just had to put her down about month ago..and to this day it is still hard..but she was suffering..i feel if the dog is suffering its not far..you cant be selfish as hard as it is..but if the vet feels she isn’t suffering then why not keep her around..she isn’t even that old for a Pom..If are Boxer wasn’t suffering we would of continued to do anything in are power to have her here…we just recently got a Pom..she is a great new addition..so make a long story short talk to your vet and see what he thinks..because nobody can give you that answer but him..are prayers go out to you and your puppy..you will know the right decision to make..trust me..my bf was so attached to his baby but he new.
