I had Gallbladder surgery on Tuesday, When can I expect to feel better?

Just wondering when I’d be able to sleep on my side instead of my back, and when I could walk further than around the house. i also have not had a bowel movement yet and was told by many people that i would have very bad diarrhea.

my fiance had hers taken out about a year ago and she says you should be able to sleep on your side in about a week, the diarrhea on the other hand may or may not happen but i would expect it to. Hope this helps.

Depends on which type of surgery you had. Was it the easy one with lapiscope? That is about a week I think. If you had the other more invasive type it will take longer. It is best not to eat too much. Your doctor should have given you a list of what foods you could have. Simple things, and some yogurt maybe for the good bacteria to restore the balance in your bowels. That Activa stuff is good for that or Kefir is best. If you eat anything with fat in it, that is when you will have the diarrhea, so don’t eat any fat for maybe 6 weeks.

I had my gallbladder out sometime ago, but I had other surgery at the same time, so it took me 8 weeks. But most people I know who only had the lapicsope are better in a week or two. It will still take some time for your insides to heal, so just take it easy. Pamper yourself, read, watch your favorite TV or DVD, etc.

I will warn you about one thing and this happens in everyone that I know who has had this surgery. For the rest of your life if you eat too much fat at a meal, you will have to go to the bathroom before you leave the restaurant. That is where the diarrhea comes into play. So be careful of a lot of high fat foods at one sitting. Otherwise, you will be fine.

I had the scope surgery, and it was about 10 days until I could get around with ease. The first few days were hell. I went to work a week after surgery and almost passed out, so I would give yourself 10 full days before trying anything that stupid lol.

Also, the anesthesia and pain meds constipate you, so don’t worry about diarrhea.

I had the laparoscopic surgery last week. The first two days were painful. After a week, I can sleep on my side, start walking outside, and finally get out of bed without any pain. I can’t lift anything yet because I can feel my ab muscles straining. Doctor told me not to lift anything more than 10 lb. or you can get a hernia.

The day after the surgery, I took some milk of magnesia for constipation. Since I eat a lot of beans and fruit, I’ve had regular bowel movements ever since.

To avoid diarrhea, don’t eat any greasy or fried foods, oil or anything with high fat. I haven’t had any diarrhea because I eat a pretty lowfat diet.

Surprisingly, these are some of things I can eat after the surgery: chicken, some chocolate, and a couple of tablespoons of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream. I would try eating a small amount of food first to see how my stomach reacts.
On the third day, I drank a 1/4 cup of soymilk and had an attack similar to gallstones. I was in so much pain and felt so nauseous I thought I was going to pass out and had to take my painkiller.

I mostly eat beans, rice, fruit, veggies, and I just started eating yogurt again. Before the surgery, I had to eat a completely vegan diet to avoid the gallbladder attacks.

Take things slowly and eat carefully. You probably won’t feel completely well for another 2 weeks.
